Have a '99 9-3 base that is having boost problems. Originally it was overboosting, and would cut-out in third gear. First time it did I was getting on the beltway, full throttle, and BAM...it cut out. Freaked me out.
Anyway, the kind and capable gentlemen at Viking Automotive put a new boost pressure controller solenoid in (BPC solenoid). Worked great for about a week, then it started to underboost. Wouldn't go more than half way into the yellow (better gas mileage!!) Then the boost came back and it was fine for awhile, then last week it was over boosting again.
Any thoughts? Did we get a faulty BPC? The other question I have is it will not cut out in second gear...it boosts just into the red, which I think is more than it did before. Is there a risk of running the car lean while boosting that much in 2nd gear? The guys at Viking think that is possible, and so I am keeping my foot out of it in the meantime. It's alot of fun though in 1st and 2nd gears. I should see what 0 to 60 is now.
Thanks!
