Hi all. I'm in process of doing the aux in mod for my iPod and wanted to try a bit more involved installation. I want to use the Belkin Auto Kit, which is a cigarrette lighter plug with a audio output which then plugs into the dock connector of the iPod. I would like to avoid having the plug sticking out of the cigarette lighter and after poking around behing the dash, I noticedthat there may be room to store all those connections behind the actual cigarette lighter. That leaves me 2 options:
1. tap into the power lines going to the cigarrette lighter, take apart the Belkin adaptor and hardwire that tapped power source into the adaptor.
2. pull the cigarette lighter from its mount and just plug the Belkin adapter into it -- all behind the normal mount area. I would, of course, then have a strange round hole left.
Option 1 is easily the ideal option, but I'm not certain how a cigarette lighter plug works. Is the front plug area for power and the side springy part the ground? Does anybody think it's even possible to take apart a cig. adapter and hard wire it in??
Thanks for any thoughts!!
