Thank you to all who responded and offered advice to my plight, "Fix or Salvage?" For clarification, the insurance companies do not want to offer me any money $ for my 1996 Saab 900SE with $117K that was in good condition and never been hit in any accident, which is substantiated in the CarFax Report, and I owned only 40 days! I wish there was a $4K+ offer from them available, which is why I am seeking advice here.
ALL WHO RESPONDED AGREED THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE SALVAGED SINCE FRONT-END DAMAGE IS TOO CRITICAL AND SENSITIVE FOR A SAAB. My car was hit while it was legally parked along with my neighbor's car.
In fact, Allstate, the drunk driver's insurance company, informed me that if I do not accept their offer to repair the car, it will be my responsibility to sell the car wrecked by their insured driver. Why should I have two headaches because of him: a wrecked car and the job to sell it!!
I live in NYC, Brooklyn, and went to Zumbach Saab 9/23, to compare their response to what my service dealer, who repaired my car recently, Cadillac, Hummer, Saab in LIC. My car is now at their collision specialists, Malta, also in Long Island City. Zumbach said my car before the accident was probably only worth $2,800, which would not buy me an equivalent replacement Saab 900SE.
One of Zumbach's salesmen had a similar problem and had to sue the insurance company in Small Claims Court to avoid their repair "offer" and won! The judge ordered them to pay him for the value of his car. Unfortunately, 9/21, I authorized the repairs, which probably have not begun, since they do not work on weekends. The repairs will take 10 days
and have a 1 year warranty.
Are there any other suggestions how this matter can be satisfactorily resolved? If stuck with the repaired Saab, once again, does anyone or any SAAB MECHANIC think this car can be restored to a good reliable car again? See my original 9/23 message that provides details on the damage as reported by the Allstate Adjuster. Thank you.
