I paid $60 for a quickie lube place to do basically the same thing 3 years ago on one of my previous NG900's. They injected a cleaning solution into the intake system by way of a vac hose off the engine. Thick smoke coming out the pipe, etc. Hard to say if I felt an improvement because I only had the 2.3L, and it had 130K on it. It was running pretty good anyway, I just thought I'd try it. Anyway, I've been toying around with my 89 BMW 325i the last few months and ran across the "BMW E30 Hot Soak" (tons of sites - just Google it) difference between the quickie lube place and BMW Hot Soak is that you let it sit in there for many hours, let the stuff dissolve some crud. The BMW guys seem to prefer Techron Concentrate, SeaFoam, or Ventil Sauber (aka: Valve Cleaner). Techron is same stuff recommended here difference is that it's injected directy into the engine and not diluted in the gas tank. Of course you have to change you oil after you do this, don't want any crud sucking back up into the engine. I'm sure a real cleaning of the injectors is probably better, but this could be an $8 improvement without getting your hands dirty.
I'll try to find a good link off on of the BMW boards, just curious what you guys think of this...
