Boy am I glad I got the extended warranty when I bought my used SAAB. This is the second time with a convertible top malfunction on my 98 900S in less than a year. Last April the convertible top CPU broke. The covered cost of that repair was about $800.00. It worked like a Swedish watch up until last week when a nasty clunking grinding noise ment the tonneau motor stripped its gears. The covered cost of this repair is about 1500 big ones. I am wondering if this top mechanism on these cars has some design flaws. Later model 9.3’s came with hydraulic power for the top mechanism. I wonder if they have fewer problems and are less expensive to fix if they do break. At any rate, is this what I have to look forward to? Constant repair of the top mechanism? Of course, the salt in the wound is that the part necessary to make the top work is on a national back order. Do they make them when you need them? Oh well.
