There are known problems were the plenum has been fitted improperly and the o-rings to the TB are out of position.

What is the state of the plugs and have you cleaned the injectors.

Any oil pooled around the plugs?

Clean any oil around the plugs or dirt/sand before removing plugs.

The transient effect of water spray suggests problems with ignition leakage. I would document the cables and remove cables, and cap. Wash in hot soapy water and shake dry, bake at 200F, cool to warm, dress with Armor-All classice, bake again, remove, cool and wipe off all residual... as remaining 'wetness' will simply trap dirt. The rotor is bonded to the distributor shaft, so it can be cleaned in place. Also clean the coil face. This works well, but you can pay for new cap and cables if you wish.

Inspect MAF connector and wires. MAF can be cleaned with a "plastics safe" spray cleaner. This should not contain any silicone or other lubricants.

There is really little pressure drop in the intake/plenum. So a very small gap would unduce a trivial amount of leakage and MAF signal error. At idle, the flows are small and the pressure difference is at a minimun. At idle, the effects of a leak on the other side of the throttle are significant. the largest hose that causes such problems is from the base of the TB to the solenoid valve on the RH fender near the strut tower. This hose can split or crack. It is buried low and perhaps best inspected by feel. Plenum needs to be removed to get at this.

Also check VAC line from TB to FPR.
