Convertables do get a little less mileage than the hard tops. Take the car out on the expressway at 60-65 mph, reset the SID and drive for a half hour. On flat terrain you should be getting something around 30 if there are no problems. Mixed driving will lower this to about 20-25MPG depending on how you drive and the amount of stop and go traffic.
The o2 sensor might be a prime candidate to check. It might not be the car's mileage but the 10 yr time span that does reduces the sensor's opreation. You can clean these up and re-test to determine if it is the cause of the problem. Remove the sensor and soak the tip in some cleaner like Chemtool B-12. They are fairly tolerant of heat and I have also used a propane torch to clean them. As the sensors age, they tend to slow their response time rather than go completely bad.
