I haven't gotten into mine yet, but, I think it's the starter. After the engine has started and the key is released, the starter soleniod disengages. This allows the starter cog that engages the flywheel to retract. I think that the bearing on the inside of the cog makes some noise if there isn't any tension on it. The sound is made just as the cog is spinning down.

I haven't taken off the starter yet to verify whether this is actually the case, but, that's my theory. I'll add a little dab of grease to the bearing and the starter motor armiture and will work the whole thing a bit by hand. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get around to doing it.
