Blue smoke is typically caused by oil combustion, which means that oil is getting into the combustion chambers somehow. This can be done through three ways. First is the possibility that oil is entering in through the intake via the crankcase ventilation system. Remove the tube that connects the throttle body to the pcv system (large hose that connects on the black rubber intake tubing) and see if it's supplying oil. Second is through the valve seals. This usually shows itself as a puff of blue smoke when starting up as oil will leak past them during the night and is burned off on startup the next morning. The third is piston rings. These wear out and allow excessive amounts of oil to leak into the cylinders and be burned. Run a compression test and see where your numbers lie. If low, suspect rings. If dead on, suspect oil seals (provided the oil is not entering through the PCV system).
Typically, a head gasket failure will not show itself as blue smoke, but as white pungent smoke.
Good luck.
