Do you see the red oil can warning symbol on dash? It is very common that the oil pressure sending unit die and stops illuminating the read oil can symbol on dash leaving the driver with no way of telling if the engine is loosing its oil pressure.
Since it is soo many different warning lights coming on when turning on the ignition, many drivers don't even notice if one of them are missing.
The price to replace is maybe a little bit high but keep in mind that part of the charge is that he knows how to look over your car, finding small stuff like this and also that he can replace it without you having to get your hands dirty.
Many owners have replaced the sender themself but it takes a little bit of knowledge and some tools to get in where it is located. It is hiding under the intake manifold and screwed into the engine block. It is one electric wire going to the sender.
You can search here for more information about it.
