Hi AlaskanViggen,
Thanks for the comment.
Strictly speaking, every car has the potential to strand its owner.
But what I find it hard to swallow is that I have had this car
serviced all before/on the schedule all the while at the dealership
(until the 40k mile service yesterday), and I have been very very
gentle with it, knowing it is a bit frail. Still it stranded me
without any forewarning.
I have owned '99 Dodge, '94 Buick, '86 Volvo, '96 Land Rover
Discovery, '85 Mercedes 300D. All used, none stranded me, actually,
none had any critical problem during my ownership. And all were
serviced at the local shop with the best reputation/price ratio. The
'86 Volvo was exemplary. Two non-stop cross country trips on I-80,
fully laden, in the summer with AC blasting.
And my service advisor just called and told me the best news under the
worst scenario that it was all due to a loose bolt.
For now, I will keep it, and I will, for sure, re-subscribe an OnStar
package. After this scare, I'd better pad something between it and me.
Thanks,
clriufs
