I put Bilstein springs on my '94 900SE (v6) about 9 years ago. The original ride/handling was poor. Pitching forwards and backwards with braking and acceleration. Then I put on the Bilsteins and went to the other extreme. Much too harsh/hard and not great handling in bumpy curves because of the stiffness. I'm sure the extra harshness speeds up the other problems like leaking radiator, torn motor mounts etc. I should point out that I also installed Koni sport shocks at the same time (to properly control the stiffer springs).
If I had it to do over I would try a third source for springs... maybe Abbott Racing (or any other source) instead of the OEM springs or Bilsteins.
One other thing to keep in mind is my driving is on relatively good German roads. Fairly smooth, seldom see a pothole etc. It would only be worse on poorer roads.
