Hi Keith,

I have a '97 900 SE turbo that I purchased 6 years ago in February with 44k miles on it.

I've managed to have a major service/repair once a year since then. A/C + internal temp sensor, serp. belt and idler pulleys, 55k major service, neutral safety switch, DIC, head gasket (preemptive for head bolts and coolant leak), plus the normal wear and tear items (battery, tires, oil changes/filters). I just turned over 84k miles this month.

I have averaged about $2k per year maintaining the car, not counting insurance and accidents (all body work). To me it is well worth it--I could not afford the same level of car today! It beats any lease or loan that the dealer would give me, and the car is still running strong. I expect to keep the car until I can no longer justify the upkeep, which should be a long time indeed! This board has been a sticking point as well; you won't find a better online community.

The name of the game is preemption.
