I mention all the items to look at as suggested and his response was that they did all that (Hm-m-m-m-m). He said when they applied the pry bar to the crank the engine is totally locked and has zero movement. His feeling is that when the passing gear engaged something inside the engine let go...and while it temporarily allowed the engine to barely turn, the part eventually caught in a spot where it lodged itself and locked everything totally up. Going back to your suggestion of disengaging the belts….would it be feasible to have a part driven by the belts to allow the engine to be totally locked?
While I can understand his theory, what I do not understand is if there was an internal break wouldn’t there been some indication of a loud metallic noise or some other obvious sign…..but it simply lost power …instantly. And why would it somehow crank without any obvious noise and then find a spot to lock up? Can you recommend the next course of action…I am stumped. Regarding the lube I change it about every 10,000 mi.and there was no indication of a rod thrown.
