I totally disagree. I had 2 9000's and one C900 with hydraulic clutches before my 95 900S. I absolutly hate the cable clutch. It makes the car feel like a cheap piece of crap (which it is not IMHO). Its always rough and ratchety, the friction point changes depending on temperature, they seem to have a high failure rate, and at least once every 3 months I have to pop the hood and pull the self-adjusting mechanism out to reset it.
I've tried two OEM clutch cables, the Scantech manually adjustable cable, I've tried lubricating the mechanism in the places others on this BBS have recommended, and this is all over two clutches and many miles. None of these things improved the feel at all.
I was saddened over Christmas when our family went back to see my parents for the holidays. They have a 2002 9-3 5-speed, which we drove around while we were there, and what a huge difference in feel on the clutch pedal. It ACTUALLY feels like a Saab. My wife even said "this feels alot more like our old C900"
Enough of my rant. My advice to you is get a 1998 or newer, or be prepaired to fork out some $$ to do the hydraulic clutch conversion (or just put up with the cable clutch, of course).
