I consider myself a fairly incompetent mechanic, or at least not too adventurous. Maintenance is a breeze for the most part.
Reliabliity?
Ancedotes abound on either extreme. My car spent considerable time at the vet, early on,according to warranty records. Since I bought 2.5yrs and 50K mi ago, replaced 1 control arm + headbolt retorque.
Poorest characteristic on your list is probably handling which is super easy to improve DIY, steering clamp & rear sway bar.
The SE trim (or later years of the model = premium package) weren't a big deal when I purchased but ACC, heated leather, sunroof and upgraded stereo are so key to my everyday happiness.
Maint records or evidence of fluid up upkeep essential. This isn't a gas n' go car!
Mine is still bone stock, a blast to drive, fast! I look forward to getting in it each and every time I do.
btw, this BB might be the single most valuable accessory with a Saab.
