Hello,

My 97 900set (85K) has developed an interesting electrical gremlin, and I'm asking for a bit of help before I rip apart my dashboard.

Soon after I got the car last summer, when I turned on the ignition I heard a tick-tock noise coming from the right side of the center ACC console, basically just behind where the hazard button is. The noise wasn't the same cadence as the turn signal or hazards, however! After a few seconds, it went away. I've heard it intermittantly since then, but in the last week some worrisome patterns have developed:

It lasts longer (maybe 30 seconds) and reappears occasionally on shutdown. And with the ignition off, the warning flashers flash (though not with the same intensity as if I pushed the hazard light) and the RIGHT SIDE of the ACC panel lighting flashes, too. And if I leave the wiper switch on, they wipers will work in a herky jerky cadence across the windshield...I'm worried that it won't stop and I'll discharge my battery.

so even with the key out of the ignition, something is telling the system to supply power, albeit intermittently, to the wipers, the right-side ACC backlight and the flashers!

I bought the car with a Viper remote start system installed. I never use the remote start. Otherwise, near as I can tell, there are no other electrical modifications.

Does anyone have any ideas? A search of the Saabnet archives revealed a similar, but slightly different problem about 5 years ago, which involved a service bulletin about servo motors in the ACC. (my ACC works fine, and the noise appears whether I'm in ACC, Econ or Off.)

Thanks in advance
Peter
