Usually when you hit 100k, you replace a bunch of parts to get the car to 200k with no problems - I would say the previous owner stretched out the car over the 100k til it started having a lot of problems then sold it - not so good a buy since now you're doing all the 100k stuff (O2, shocks etc) -
some will argue that both shocks and O2 last more than 100k, but O2 starts getting pretty dirty, and shocks bounce a bit - both become a problem at 150k if not already replaced and can lead to other problems (suspension wear due to shock worn, engine running wrong due to O2 worn) -
DON't pay dealer for an old used Saab (prices or work) - 150k and up and you should only be doing the work yourself to make it worth it - unless you can find a cheap indy who also knows what he's doing - some realize if they cut you a deal and get you to save up on a newer Saab at the same time you'll get that newer one and come back for service later still - they like repeats!
at the very least get OEM quality parts online (check eeuroparts or saabsite for most, as well as any sponser on here) - you can do the O2 yourself (or use a monkey) - struts require some knowledge and tools, but the shocks on rear are very easy.
What is the heater control valve issue? taking the dash off is fairly easy and the control is doable - again use an indy and get it done there so you have heat!
let us know if you try anything yourself and we're glad to help!
