Others are correct, you can get the same (or close enough) overall diameter with any wheel up through 17". Tirerack is great to show you the overall rolling diameter of many tires. Even among 205/55-16 you note there can be variations in overall size on the road. To insure good speedo calibration, look for the factory setup (pirelli or Michelin depending on year) and try to stay close to that.
But with the narrower rubber, you will definately feel a difference, especially as you go to 17. It was too much for me and the roads in Chicagoland. I sold off the set. I run two sets of 16" wheels, one for summer and one for winter. 16" is a good balance of control, looks, comfort.
