I don't go on the highway much anymore but when I did I always got 29-31mpg. Around town I get around 26-28mpg. Yesterday my meter said 27.5mpg after I got on the highway. I cleared it thinking it would clime higher faster but it actually stayed at 20mpg while cruising. This does not make sense. Ideas?
Here's what has changed since the last time I hit the highway.
1) Front ride height a little higher due to new front struts
2) Used 89 octane vs 92
3) Need an oil change
4) Might need an alignment due to front strut replacement but see no signs of that yet.
5) Tire pressure is at 32 vs 36.
The only thing I can think of is that I got new front struts but the rears are older and the ride height is higher in the front. That would increase drag which would expose itself at higher speeds.
Any other ideas?
My gas mileage went back up to 27 as soon as I took the speeds down to about 45mph vs 75mph.
