I pulled the trunk lining out and removed the antenna motor assembly.
The mast and accompanying plastic drive move easier when disconnected from the motor, so I pulled the back off the assembly and removed the wheel containing the coiled drive (which sprung out, no matter).
Now I had to persuade the mast to come out of the sleeve, I hooked antenna tip on pliers under my feet and pulled. Careful not to damage antenna tip.
Once I got the mast up, I cleaned with emery cloth, wiped with WD-40, pushed mast in & out & wiped & repeated.
I wound the drive back into the wheel and assembeled.
The antenna motor won't drive the mast up uless the antenna cable is connected.
I turned the radio on & off several times, verified operation before attaching motor assembey inside fender.
It's a pretty straight forward mechanism. Remove the small nut and cover.
You can get everything back together.
My plastic mast drive was still in good shape, not sure how to remove it and mast shoud the drive bocome stripped.
Mine still binds occasionally going down but otherwise functioning again.
This will need constant maintenance, mine was pretty frozen after about 18mos of no-op.
Replacement mast fairly inexpensive - entire motor assembly ... ouch.
