I'm afraid this sounds very much like your turbo is going out. That would be the worst case. My 2000 9-3 went through the same problem at about 40K. A worn seal in the turbo is allowing oil to seep into the intake side of the turbo. It tends to build up there after the motor is shut down (such as at the end of the day), and the next time you start it up the oil is sucked into the intake charge. 40K is much too early for the turbo to wear out, but I heard rumors (never verified) that there was a bad run of turbos around that year.
Unless it is running very rough, it should be OK to drive to the repair shop since the amount of oil leaking through while the motor is running is quite small. I have no good estimate of the cost since mine was replaced under warranty, but it will not be inexpensive, I'm afraid. Unfortunate bad luck. But make sure you get a competant diagnosis to make sure that that is the problem. I cannot think of anything more likely from those symptoms.
