Whining noise from timing/balance area.

I am looking for suggestions/past experience from anyone who can relate to my current problem.

About a month ago, I had a failed head gasket - water getting into cylinder 4. I pulled the head and got to peak at the timing area pretty well and noticed "a litle more than normal" wear for an engine of 130K in some of the balance/timing components - since the head was off I decided to take off the timing cover and replace both chains, the most worn guides (generally on the tensioners), and the bottom/crank timing sprocket.

Well I got it all together and the first thing I noticed was a high pitch WHINE which varies with RPM. I dismissed it at first to be just the chains rubbing on their new guides thinking that it would go away, but its' been a month now (a few hundred miles) and it hasn't.

I've done a few checks
1. Removed the accessory belt and started the engine at cold to make sure it was the engine and not a failing accessory bearing.
2. Removed the timing tensioner to make sure I remembered to release the rachet mechanism (could cause tensioner guide to be too tight). It was fine.

The engine is running smoothly, but now I have this noise which sounds like a loud super-charger. It is just audible inside the cabin - with the radio on at a reasonable level, I can't hear it, but its quite annoying outside.
