Dodged a bullet - Viggen rear wheel alignment specs

On the way home from the Mother's Day visit my 99 Viggen starts a vibration around 65 mph and gets worse through 80. At first I thought it was a bad rear shock or bent wheel. Vibration was mostly felt in the seat, bad front shocks usually are felt in the steering wheel. I kept the car down at posted speeds for the balance of the trip and wondered what I would be spending at board sponsors this week. At 9:30, just before the last exit before the Tappan Zee Bridge, I hear the right rear tire start to shred. Bail off the exit and hit a well lit gas station.
I'll leave out the 20 minutes lost due to the wheel siezed on the hub (board advice of loosen lug nuts and drive in circles until it loosens works - thanks to whoever posted that).
The rear tire had worn severely on the inside, I can't tell if the belt broke or if the alignment angles were incorrectly set. The drive to the exit wore through the outer corner and sidewall, but the rim was spared. The driver's side rear tire is slightly worn on the inside. With my full size spare on and safely at home, I notice that the rear wheels tip in at the top quite a bit, which may have contributed to the wear, which may have been the problem.
So should the Viggen specs be such that the top of the tire is visibly inboard on the rear wheels? Or is this a bent axle issue, freak tire failure or what?
Thanks in advance.
