Ignition rotor/distributor

Well,, I went to change my cap and rotor today. How in the hell are you to get the rotor off?? I had to distroy it as it was installed with lock tight or some other major glue. I had to remove the distributor as the plastic from the rotor and the glue fused itself on the distibutor shaft. Anyways, after distroying the old rotor and reinstaling all now everthing is fine. Was this normal? Should this rotor be lubricated so they dont weld themselfs to the shaft?
1995 900S, 2.3 4cyl.
Thanks!
