Three legged stool.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Tue, 30 May 2006 12:42:13 In Reply to: best on front with FWD ? nm, dudewithasaab, Mon, 29 May 2006 17:23:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Nope, best to the rear. Better traction at the rear promotes going straight, better traction at the front invites a spin, especiall in slippery or reduced traction conditions. Not as serious an issue in clean dry conditions, but there are lots of road conditions that will cause worn tires to lose their grip first so you want the best tires on the rear to keep the front ahead of the back.
Now that assumes no blow outs. A blowout on the front is preffered to a blowout on the rear. A rear blowout makes a car a three legged stool with two legs in the front so guess what? Very large likely hood of swapping ends especially when encouraged by heavy braking associated with a blowout. With a blowout up front one remaining front wheel steering and the blown front wheel will stay out front under the braking and deceleration of a blowout.
Best tires to the rear, FWD too.
