but using the pickle fork, then yes, I suppose it would happen. And you didn't destroy the ball joint boots? That's what happened to me, but I suspected it would and had boots at the ready. The prescribed method for popping the tie rods is the Pitman Arm Puller.
Anyway, the tie rod ends are only $20 each from eEuro for Scantech, and $30 for TRW/MOOG. Odd enough, I ordered the TRW/MOOG for both sides and got two different types/brands. Oh well. It really was a 20 minute job to replace the one side where my boot had torn. Having fiddled with the boots on the ball joints, I suspect one could replace, but $20 to save the aggravation of getting those stupid rings on would probably be worth it.

You would probably want to wait if possible for delivery, as Saab list price (if you were to hit up the dealer) is $81! Maybe try Al over at Impact for more immediate options?
Good luck, and you should consider joining us if we do another WNY Saab Run. The year prior, a few of us did a "Run to the Finger Lakes." It was quite enjoyable, and good people.
