I am on my third set for my 01 Base, but with 15 inch alloys. A few years ago, I got CU to email me the extra noise data left out of their publication review on performance and touring tires. I was down deciding between Dunlops and the MXV4 Energy Plus which performed nearly identically on their tests. I decided to pay the extra money for the quieter Michelins, and I am quite satisfied with the investment. I make weekly three hour drives at high speed, and the stress of tire drone is not needed. I wear these tires down to where they start to aquaplane, which is a little over the legal tread depth. Still, even at that point I have not experienced the noise as described above when they are so worn.

I wonder which precisely which MXV model has annoyed vovo222 so?

I have had really noisy, to the point of considering ear plugs for trips noise, on my 90 Miata, which has zero sound insulation. The OEM Bridgestones were sticky, but horribly noisy. It was finally Michelins that made the noise bearable on a trip.

Tire Rack's reviews are too vague for much of any kind of rational decision making, at least from where I sit. Same for their voluntary customer opinions. The customer has little if any experience with very many tires, and they are generally defending a very recent purchase. On a tire company's site, one might accept the company's comparison of its own products' noise relative to their others, but not to a competitor's.

Just my two cents.
