If you need to periodically recharge the system, you have a leak somewhere. If the performace of the a/c seems proper immediately after a recharge, then that would suggest the leak is your only problem. If it is still below par after a recharge, then you may have air in the system or a failing component. You may want to start with having the system checked for leaks at a shop that specializes in a/c work, your trusted Saab Indy, or a Saab dealership if you must. I would avoid gas station type garages that happen to charge a/c's on the side for finding small leaks. Some leaks can be relatively inexpensive to fix; failed o-ring or hose, others, such as condensor or evaporator leaks, and you may be looking at somewhere around $1000 or even more. Over the years, a/c's have become quite expensive to fix on all makes of cars. I spent over $1100 to have a leak fixed on a 1993 Chevy Astro about six or seven years ago, as it required a new evaporator and a new condensor. I've since bought about $600 of a/c tools and have been able to do all of my own repairs thus far.
