No, I normally just rotate them across the car. That doesn't deal with inside vs. outside wear. But it answered the question about whether it's OK to run them 'backwards'. At one time the conventional wisdom was that once you use a tire it should always roll the same direction.
I've only once (long time ago) remounted tires so inside vs. outside shoulders are swapped.
