Just got back from a 4800 mile trip out to the Seattle area from central Illinois driving my 2000 Viggen with 75,000 miles on it at end of trip. Keeping the cruise set under 70mph I obtained 34mpg average according to the SID. Dividing miles driven by fuel bought the mpg comes out to be 32mpg. Not sure why the difference but pleased with either figure!
Absolutely no car problems the whole trip but the tires that came on it when I bought it in 2004...BFG Scorcher T/A's, 215/45ZR17's...are horidily noisey tires. You might think you're in a Jeep with aggressive M&S's. A low speeds when slowing for a stop a vibration is set up in the car.....
Oops, wait a minute...my original reason for posting this message was to request recomendations on quieter tires for the car (which I still am!), but I just went out to the car to look closer at the tires before posting this and I see the inner 1/4 of the tread (where the tread is individual blocks of rubber) is showing evidence of cupping....tread blocks feel sharper when running you hand over them in one direction then the other. Rear tires seem worse then the fronts.
So...does this mean I need some careful alignment work done, or is this something you have to live with with these wide tires and wheels? How would realignment be done...by force?!...I didn't think there's many "screw/shim" adjustments left in these suspensions anymore.
Thanks,
2000 Viggen, 2002 9-3 SE, 1964 Rambler American, 1980 Yamaha XT500
