I have owned a few saab however I started about 10 years after you did :)

first car was a 86 900s

then I went through a handfull of SPG's 1 of which I still own

presently I have a viggen

With the problems posted when you scroll down. You do realize that this is a bulliten board dedicated to a certain car. I challenge you to find any car site where problems are not listed. You need to realize that the problems are a small percentage of vehicles sold.

With the lack of room... I do agree that the NG900/9-3's are tight but the car was designed what.... 15+ years ago! The new 9-3 does have more room but still not a large car which can be good or bad :)

Another kinda finny statement was about crash cages etc. It is true that government standard require car companies to meet certain crash standards however the majority of the car companies out there build their cars to perform well in the test and not in real world situations. Therefore, I would suggest checking out the folskham group test for crash safety & see where saab's rank compared to the japanese car you own as well as other vehicles.

my 86 900s

-engine died week after car was purchased, failed ECU
-AC failure at 50-60K
-trans at 120K
-ac again at 140K
-CV joints 150K
-exh at 110K & 200K
I forget everything else

my 2000 viggen purchased with 42K miles 79K now
-AC compressor 50K
-DI failure at 52K
-cabin air sensor 60K
-rotors at 42K & 78K track pads eat rotors :)

nocking on wood.... that's it!

SPG
-not enough room to list what I have replaced.... 400hp kinda does that :)

I feel the NG900/9-3's are great cars! For those of us who do not have the funds to pay full price they make EXCELLENT 2nd or 3rd hand cars. With anything used you muse be prepared to have issie & that's with ANY car, jap or wherever. My only complaint with the ng900/9-3 isn't reliability because mine has been excellent but actually a weak flext chassis. Fortunantly there are things to do to stiffen things up.

I also forgot to mention that my viggen has been very reliable even after beating on it at the local roadcoarse several times.

My brothers 98 900 SET needs a new exhaust at 125K & cabin air sensor & I beleive those are the only issues with the car except normal maintenance

dad's 99 9-3 convert nothing except maintenance

brother 04 9-3ss aero also zero issues

Will.... if you want a NG900/9-3 I would just go as new as you can
