Strange power steering noises Posted by Todd [Email] (#958) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Todd) on Mon, 14 Aug 2006 13:30:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all,
I've got a 1996 900 SE Turbo 5 Speed with 112k miles.
I just checked my power steering fluid and it is at the correct levels. Here's the issue I'm trying to solve:
When I drive the car for less than an hour, everything seems fine. When I drive for more than an hour and it's warm out, strange noises start to come from the front end. When I'm not moving and I turn the wheel, there are loud, uneven groaning noises from under the hood when I turn the wheels. Also happens at slow speeds (e.g. pulling into a parking space.)
It's not the same whine that I'm used to hearing from a power steering pump when the fluid is low.
Any ideas? Is the pump just wearing out?
Thanks!
Todd
