At 74,007 miles, driving 65mph the ABS light came on. Then the TCS Off light came on.
When I start the car, the ABS light stays on and it takes about 1/2 mile or approximately 60 seconds for the TCS Off to come on.
I checked the hydraulic brake level. It was in between Min and Max. I topped the tank all the way up. Warnings still came on.
I checked the tire pressure. Front left was at 32.5 PSI, front right was at 32, rear left 17 and rear right 29. I serviced all 4 tires to 33 PSI each. Warnings still came on.
Trying to understand what caused the ABS warning to trip, then triggering the TCS Off light, I recall changing the front tires in June 2006. I had 4 Pirelli P4000. The Pirelli P4000 tire is discontinued, so I had 2 new Pirelli P6 tires (same size as the P4000) installed on the front wheels and the best 2 tires of the used P4000 set installed on the rear wheels. The P4000 have noticeable wear (approx. 20 to 25,000 miles) althought there is still some thread left. Since the tire replacement I drove about 2,000 miles with no vibration, no noise, nothing... just a smooth enjoyable summer ride.
Could it be that the difference in diameter (due to wear) of the front wheels (new P6) and the rear wheels (used P4000) trip the ABS?
I plan on changing the rear tires on Wednesday. I am supposed to drive about 600 miles for Labor Day week end and I won’t be able to take care of this issue before I leave. I am wondering if I could go on holiday safely and with a peace of mind.
After I replace the rear tires, if those ABS and TCS lights keep coming on, I plan on bringing the car to the Saab repair service center for at least a tech 2 Diagnostic. Before I do so, I would like to get some education as far as how the ABS and TCS systems work, talk to each other.
Does anyone have a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes and their meaning?
Any recommendations, suggestions, help or similar experience would be appreciated.
