A few weeks ago I was driving my 2000 Viggen in a heavy rain when the Check Engine light came on. Disconnected the battery, the light went away and stayed out...till several days later when again driving in the rain. Disconnected battery again...light goes out and stays out...till a couple days ago after washing the car (at home with garden hose). Took the car into the dealer this time and they came up with the code "P1577" (brake switch short to ground, they said) and said (surprise to me!) that none of the brake lights were working!! They finally traced the brake light problem to a blown fuse. Replaced the fuse and brake lights worked (and continue to do so). No other codes or problems found.
So...does code P1577 have any other meaning, or implication, then "brake light switch short to ground"? If there were other codes present could these have been cancelded without knowing it? Why would a brake problem eluminate the check engins light? No other warnings were displayed on the dash or SID. I originally figured they'd find one of the oxygen sensors shorting out when hit with water. Now think one of the wheel sensors for ABS could maybe be the problem. ?? Thanks
