00 9-3 SE, 93k. 90F today. on way home temp gauge began to creep lower from normal midpoint setting, it bottomed out on "C" then CEL came on. I pulled off the road opened hood, coolant level OK, palm of hand on VC indicates engine warmer than normal, upper radiator hose seems hot-normal, lower hose seemed unusually cold. Let car cool off for 45 minutes and drove the last 2 miles home. The AC also cut out when all this was going on.
If I just went solely by my temp gauge, one would guess the car was running unusually cold...but the fact that my CEL came on and the AC compressor is disabled indicates the car was probably near overheating???
I am not going to drive it anymore until I get this fixed. I guess that the thermostat is bad (original) and possibly one of the two temp sensors is haywire? Whichever one controls that gauge on the dash...I have searched the archives and seen nothing like this...what gives?
