It's just different kind of pick tools that can be inserted passed the pin to trigger the little barb so that the wire and pin can be pulled out.
That barb is pretty strong so if you try to pull out the wire without moving the barb, you might pull off the wire from pin.
It is also different locking devices on different connector housings throughout the cars so it's always a challenge trying to figure out where to poke and pry and pull, all at the same time even when you have the proper tools.
If that connector is broken, maybe you can break it open a little bit more to figure out the lock mechanism that holds the wire in place and manufacture some kind of thin blade pick tool for your need.
