I use M1 5w-30 every 6 months (don't drive all that much, so I go by time rather than miles).
I have a 97, but it's pretty much the same car. All the problems you may encounter are on this bb, but it pretty much shakes out to ignition cassette, SID, clutch cable or A/T range switch, some A/C condenser issues, idler pulleys.
Rare but not unheard-of failures: ACC switches, seat heater, odd leaks around lift gate.
Driveability issues tend to be vacuum line or sensor related (and there are a lot of both).
The alloy wheels are really soft; watch out for uneven tire wear.
I've babied mine (90k miles); engine still pulls strongly, mileage is low 20s in town, high 20's on highway (with roof rack); some weeping around oil pan and valve cover seals, but I think that's b/c the car sits for up to a week at a time (live in NYC).
IMO, the ng900s are good highway and suburb cruisers, but not made for the twisties. I dont think the transverse engine does the car any favors...tends to nose dive and wallow a bit. I prefer the og900 but good ones are getting rarer and rarer...
