minor background - '97 900 se turbo 5 speed, stiff clutch pedal, clutch has never slipped in the month I've owned it,even on hills. last night installed sport tranny mount (genuine saab) and drove extensively with no issues. USED LOCTITE.
tonight to exit a highway I pushed in the clutch, held it down, coasted down an exit ramp, and then when entering a rotary tried to select 3rd, would NOT go into gear. ANY gear. double-clutched (neutral, release clutch, press clutch, try another gear) which did not work... engine was stumbling a little... i nailed the gas which seemed to "break it free" and I could choose gears as normal again (very dissapointed with how this 'luxury' transmission compares to my old cavalier 5speed which was great in comparison) and i could choose a gear. it did it a few more times but gassing it seemed to fix the issue. I don't see how that could relate to the tranny mount (if bolts were coming out, for example) because vibrations aren't bad at all, and I used loctite and torqued to specs.
Didn't do the problem again for next 10 miles, but then when I tried backing out of girlfriend's driveway (slight incline backing out) i could fully release clutch pedal in reverse, and pressing gas made engine rev a little and the car would try a little to get up the driveway but mostly sit still or stutter... i assume this is clutch slippage, why only in reverse?? finally it engaged and i made it out. i tried to get it to re-enact the first issue all the way home, luckily it would not. I even did a slippage test on a hill stop (just engaged slowly with little to no gas, it grabbed fine and pulled up the hill... clutch catches with pedal very low to floor, and is very stiff, but no issues before this otherwise, though car does launch like crap if you try to burn out... figured it was a low compression FWD thing, no turbo spool yet at that point or something)
but anyways it grabbed fine there and drove home fine. I pull into my spot at my driveway, press in clutch pedal to let it roll back a little (with first gear still selected from driving in) and it seems to be grabbing clutch slightly, as the car resisted rolling back and even sputtered a little... would engage reverse fine when I wanted to go backwards, but if I left it in first even with clutch pushed in when rolling backwards it would grab a little...
anyone know what the heck is going on? Very worried, as this is my only car, daily driver, and only mode of getting to class, and after my alarm/remote issue I can't miss any more classes... please offer advice or thoughts, anything.
thanks in advance,
-jesse
