Well, before the CKP sensor goes really, really bad, it is possible to drive the car for long distances without the engine conking out.

The reason for this is that the sensor gets cooled down by the air going through the engine compartment.

A failing sensor goes bad with heat. As hotter it gets, the more failures.
So that's the reason why I let the car sit idling outside on the asphalt in the middle of the sun with the hood closed, to build up as much heat as possible in the engine compartment.

When you park the hot car for a few minutes, the residual heat in engine block comes out and heat up the sensor body without the air stream passing through the compartment or the coolant circulating through the engine block helping the sensor to stay cool.

That's why that sensor is usually attributed of creating a no start syndrome after sitting for a short while and then when sitting even longer and the engine heat has dissipated, the car starts again.

This is also the reason why so many mechanics are stumped on finding the problem since when the car finally arrives at the shop on a tow truck, the engine has cooled down and the car starts and runs perfect for as long as the testdrive takes and it is also no fault codes logged in the system.

The fuel filter is found in front of right/rear tire covered by a black plastic shield.
