The purpose of the update is to lower the cranckcase ventilation pressure and reduce oil leaks. In my case, 00' HOT, I had a weeping headgasket and had the headbolts retourqed and the PCV update done and that stopped the oil leak. Mechanic was unaware of the TSB's concerning the issue until I brought them to him. He told me he has since done the update on other leakers with the same result. If you dont have any leaks then the update prob isnt necessary but its relatively inexpensive so why not (preventative maintenance?) Read the TSB on Genuine Saabs sight.
