You'll still need to figure out the cause of the low oil pressure when you get the chain sorted out.
If the relief valve is now closing it seems like you have 2 possibilities:
1) The oil pump is worn and not moving enough oil to bring the pressure up .
2) You have a worn crankshaft and or crankshaft bearings and the excessive clearance is causing the low pressure.
