You'd certainly smell a heater core leak, the whole interior will smell like antifreeze, and a little bit goes a long way.
i just replaced the radiator on my '95 SET after a year or so of watching whisps of steam curl over the hood on cool mornings. Fluid loss was negligible on the reservoir. Turns out the nipple where the reservoir hose connected to the radiator was cracked. Since that's on the top of the radiator it didn't leak all that much. Might be something to look at. A new radiator is less than $200, but rather labor intensive to replace.
