Anders looks out for those in need...even though your question is about a different car than that covered on this particularly message board.
The 2000 9-3 is discussed under "NG900 and OG93". The "9 3SS" board is for the newest generation, 2003 model year and later, 9-3. Perhaps the confusion may be reduced if the link at the top of the page were changed to "9-3SS 2003- "?
Japanese cars usually have a different design philosophy that uses timing belts, not timing chains. This is a cheapo philosophy because you must change the belt (not to be confused with serpentine belt that you see on the outside of the engine) at about 60k miles or so. The timing chain is a metal part that often lasts a very long time, unlike Japanese timing belts.
