I think it's a sign, however short sighted, how poorly GM is doing. I had a similiar case where my '02 Viggen's 'On-Star' module and TWICE died ($800) a few days after the warranty ended. Dealer said pay up and take it up with GM, who said "sorry". Took it up with GM at a higher level, they did some talking to the dealer....'sorry'. Apparently, since I wasn't the original owner and didn't buy it from the dealer the dealer wouldn't go to bat for me.
I'm just glad I didn't extend the warranty! I also had issues with this dealer as they were reluctant to replace a noisy bearing and a cracking belt as "they had not yet failed" and thus were considered maintenance and not warranty items!!! Hmmm....
