Torque is the number you should be focusing on, my opinion anyway.

You *can* just do an ECU upgrade and change nothing else on the engine (as I have done on my '02). But mine is an automatic and the BSR ECU upgrade by itself pretty much maxes out what the automatic can handle, at about 250hp and 258lbft (up from 205 and 207). I got mine from a BSR agent in the UK that is not a Saabnet sponsor, so I can't mention their name in this post.

I recall reading that the '99s were T5 motors (red DI cassette) and on those, and if so, I'm not sure of you can do the software swap with a PPC such as the one by BSR. Check over at the performance board or do an Internet search for BSR or one of the others like Nordic.
