2001 93 Viggen (100km’s)

I have tracked down the fluctuating coolant level in my reservoir tank to the upper rad hose. When the system is hot and under pressure after driving, the coolant level is at normal level. After it cools down over night, the coolant level has dropped an 1” or more. What I found was that when I take the cap off the tank (and pressure is released) the coolant level rises back up to normal at the same time the upper rad hose contracts back to it’s normal diameter squeezing the 'missing' coolant back in the tank.

So… Is it normal for the system to have that much pressure when cold? Is the tank cap not doing it’s job (if someone could explain how it works on these Saab’s that would be great)? Or is this the sign of a failing upper rad hose that will soon burst?

I would realy like to know how the cap works. What about you guys? Do you have pressure releasing out of the tank when you take the cap of when it’s cold?

P.S. There are NO know leaks, never need toping up, and the head gasket was done a while back by other owner.
