Good point. I wonder if the stock radio could be responsible for the pixel loss.
But yes, the SID failure is result of bad design. The ribbon is glued (basically rubber) on to the LCD and board. Increased heat will accelerate pixel disappearance by softening the glue and detaching the ribbon. Have you ever noticed how SID's act funky in extreme temperatures?
Back to that Taurus cup holder. It is slightly too big to fit nicely and easily into the dash. To get it to fit I had to chop off the top plate. The space for the OEM radio is slightly less than double din. So a single din head unit and single din cup holder will not fit.
It was a real PITA to get it in and in the end was not very useful, although it looked nice.
I think the swing-out 9-3 or later Subaru holder would work better.
