I've been through the electric top experience with a '96 900SE V6. Maybe if it was a fresh model the techs availible would be more up to speed, but it's getting harder and harder to find someone really well versed in the electric top intricacies, and it's never cheap. The 9-3 hydraulic tops on the other hand seem to be pretty bullet proof.
Otherwise IMHO an NG900 and an OG9-3 are relatively equal mechanically, except for the NG900 V6. But I would indeed prefer a higher mile 9-3 to a lower mile NG900, especially a vert cuz of the top.
The SE is nice stuff, but not a deal breaker, at the right price. The SE stuff doesn't add appreciably to the value and is preferred.
Leather holds up as well as it's taken care of. The GM900 seats are a flatter design and more susceptable to cracking, but if they're conditioned every now and then they'll be fine and besides, upholstery is realatively cheap and easy.
