Timing Chain Replacement

I am in the middle of changing the timing chain in a 1999 9-3. The car doesn't have that many miles (less than 70K) but the tensioner was all the way out and the chain was really noisy. It is obvious that the car wasn't maintained by the previous owner. Question is, other than appearance, is there a way to tell if the balance chain, oil pump or anything else also should be changed? I would sure hate to do this a second time! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
